MISSION STATEMENT, GOALS and OBJECTIVES
Burnham Fire Department
The Burnham Fire Department provides emergency medical, fire suppression and related services within the Village of Burnham. The department also provides these services to surrounding communities in accordance with mutual aid agreements entered into by the village with the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) and the Third District Chief’s Association.
The department operates out of one station located at 14101 Hoxie Avenue, Burnham, Illinois.
There are currently 23 members of the department. They include 1 Chief, 1 Assistant Chief, 2 Captains, 4 Lieutenants and 16 firefighters. Members serve on an on-call basis and are certified by the State of Illinois as Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. The department responds to approximately 650 calls per year for fire, emergency medical and related services.
The department apparatus consists of two Class A pumpers, one brush truck/rescue squad and a Chief/command vehicle. The department members meet and train every Thursday evening and on selected weekend days throughout the year. Information on membership may be obtained at the fire station. Members also regularly participate in various training academies and classes throughout the State of Illinois.
In 2015 the fire department entered into an agreement with fire departments from the City of Calumet City, Village of Dolton and Village of Riverdale to provide assistance in the event a reported building fire in Burnham. This “automatic aid” agreement provides that if a fire is reported in town fire apparatus and personnel from Burnham, Calumet City, Dolton and Riverdale will immediately respond. These agreements are now the standard in fire protection for small communities such as Burnham and we are proud to offer this first class service to our citizens.
The Burnham Fire Department is dedicated to protecting life and property by providing the community with firefighting, medical and other emergency services as requested by its citizens and mutual aid partners. The department also provides public safety and fire prevention education and programming to children and adults throughout the year.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The department’s goals are to carry out its mission with the highest level of professionalism always keeping safety first in mind. The department’s objectives are to accomplish its goals by regularly engaging in training and education in all of the fields in which we work and employing the latest techniques and skills with the best equipment available. Through teamwork and the esprit de corps common in the fire service our members vigilantly approach their many and various highly challenging tasks. Our members possess a keen sense of community service and are there to help as first responders when duty calls.
